Founded in 2008 on Madison’s Eastside, Thorps was conceived as a community-minded business, specializing in haircuts and color services. Removing the front desk has proven to be a transformative decision with numerous benefits for Thorps Haircuts & Color Salon Owner, Hattie Chamberlin. Hattie and co-owner, Liz Glynn, decided to remove their front desk during the peak of the pandemic, but never went back due to the financial and operational advantages of going deskless that quickly became evident. By removing their front desk they were able to add additional stations to increase revenue, hire career minded stylists and provide a welcoming approach to customer service that is relaxed, educational and attentive. Aura sat down with Hattie to further discuss their journey as deskless salon owners.
